SKINCARE

At Luxehouze Beauty, we classify skin into four types based on its condition.

DRY - Your skin may appear dull, feel rough, become itchy, and peel easily. It often feels tight and may be prone to showing more visible fine lines.

BALANCED - Your skin feels neither too dry nor too oily. It is not prone to breakouts, flakiness, or feeling greasy or tight.

OILY - As it produces excessive sebum (face oil), your skin may appear shiny and feel greasy with large, visible pores. It may also be prone to breakouts.

COMBINATION - Your skin is dry or balanced in some areas—typically the cheeks—and oily in others—typically the T-zone.

Skin sensitivity refers to your skin’s reaction toward external influences. Having sensitive skin means that your skin is more vulnerable to certain ingredients and environmental factors. Thus, when using skincare products, you may experience stinging, irritation, burning, redness, or tightness when using skin care products.

An eye cream is a formula that has been developed specifically for the areas around the eyes. It is different from other skincare products in terms of active ingredients, texture, and scent.

As you blink around 30,000 times a day, the thin, delicate skin around your eyes comes under particular stress, so you need the right eye cream. Choose your eye cream according to the concerns you want to address (dark circles, puffiness, wrinkles and fine lines, dehydration, etc.). Apply it every day, preferably both morning and night.

A serum is a formula with a fluid and penetrating texture that contains concentrated active ingredients. Packed with potent and targeted ingredients, serums usually target specific skin concerns like dullness, uneven complexion, dark spots, large pores, fine lines, dryness and more. A serum is lighter and thinner than most moisturizers, so it can quickly penetrate into the skin and work on a deeper level.

If you have specific skin concerns, you will need the right serums. Apply it to clean skin, before your day or night cream.

Face masks are used at various intervals to complement your usual skincare routine. They are designed to be applied in a thick layer and left on the skin for a specified time which can be different for each product. They may come in various formulas: gel, cream, clay, or even tissue or cellulose.

Face masks provide an intense and instant action targeting specific skin concerns, such as reducing inflammation, oiliness, breakouts, skin tightening, and hydration. If you experience a skin concern that needs immediate remedy, a face mask is definitely a great choice.

A night cream provides your skin with the active ingredients it needs for optimum renewal and detoxification overnight. It typically has a richer texture because, during the night, the skin’s microcirculation is more active and skin is particularly receptive to care products.

Your skin’s needs change depending on the time of day. During the day, your skin faces everyday aggression (UV, pollution, stress, etc.) and it then renews while you sleep at night. To optimize the process, you need a night cream.

Exfoliating your skin involves removing dead skin cells from its surface to stimulate skin renewal. Regular exfoliation helps to keep your skin smooth, soft and radiant, ideally prepared for the application of skincare products.

We recommend exfoliating your skin twice a week as part of your weekly skincare routine. We advise exfoliating twice a week to make sure you remove dry, dull skin without disrupting your skin's natural oil production. When exfoliating, it’s important to be gentle on your skin. Being too harsh can be drying and could lead to microtears. Use an exfoliation scrub or cream gently and apply a moisturizer after to help your skin heal.

If you are a beginner or someone who likes to go with just the essentials, make sure to include a cleanser, a toner, a serum, a moisturizer, and a sunscreen in your daily skincare routine. For extra care, you can add an eye cream, a day cream, a night cream, an exfoliator, face oils, and face masks.

MAKEUP

If you want to create a natural makeup look, we have some tips for you.

  • Prepare your skin using a hydrating face mask before applying makeup to make sure your skin is supple and moisturized.
  • Apply a primer before your foundation to get a smooth base and add a glowy, luminous finish to your final look.
  • For this look, pick a foundation with light coverage. Avoid foundations with thick, full coverage. Use a tinted moisturizer, BB cream, CC cream, or skin tint to give your skin some extra hydration while still allowing some of your freckles, redness, and imperfections to shine through.
  • Use a lightweight concealer for blemishes.
  • Creams are the best for a natural makeup look. A cream makes everything just blend and sink right in, and it tends to look more natural than a powder.
  • Make your face look natural but still glowy by adding a nice dewiness to the tops of your cheekbones. Rather than going for a traditional shimmery highlighter, opt for a cream with a clear base.
  • For this look, opt for brushed up brows instead of defined thick brows.

If you are currently on the hunt for the right foundation, here are some tips for you.

  1. Start by identifying your skin tone and undertones.
  2. Choose a shade that is the closest to your skin tone and undertones.
  3. Pick a coverage level you need for the look you are after.
  4. Consider your skin type when it comes to choosing finishes, matte or dewy.
  5. Choose a shade based on the current season, and note that you may need another foundation when the season changes.
  6. Use virtual try-on tools.

To prevent oiliness, pick a foundation with a natural or matte finish. When it comes to tools, you can use either a foundation brush or blending sponge. Remember to be thoughtful with application and avoid a cakey look.

Hydrating, creamy foundation and concealer formulas are excellent for dry skin. Some ingredients to look for in foundations include hyaluronic acid and natural oils, both of which will help your skin to retain moisture.

FRAGRANCE

Every person has what we call body chemistry. Your body chemistry is different from others’ and changes from time to time depending on factors such as stress, hormonal changes, and your current diet or medications. Your body chemistry affects how different notes react on your skin; the "natural" smell of your skin might change how a perfume smells on you.

If you feel that your perfume never lasts long, you might have dry skin. All other things being equal, perfumes evaporate more rapidly from dry skin. Therefore, the best way to make fragrance last longer is to use body lotion or cream. You can choose the matching lotion or cream for your fragrance, but you can also use an unscented cream, petroleum jelly, or jojoba oil. You might also try a light mist to your hair, which is said to hold scent longer than skin.

These terms refer to the strength of the fragrance. More specifically, it refers to how much high grade alcohol and/or water has been added to the fragrance oils. Parfum, which is generally the most concentrated form you can buy, has 15-25% perfume oil dissolved in alcohol. Any mixture with a lower proportion of oil to alcohol is an eau, which means water in French.

Here is a guide for you.
- Huile de Parfum or Perfume Oil (15-30% perfume oil in an oil base rather than alcohol base)
- Parfum or Perfume (15-25%, sometimes also referred to as extrait or extract)
- Soie de Parfum (15-18% perfume oil)
- Eau de Parfum (8-15% perfume oil)
- Eau de Toilette (4-10% perfume oil)
- Eau de Cologne (2-5% perfume oil)
- Eau Fraiche (usually 3% or less perfume oil)

Top notes provide the first scent impression of a fragrance once it has been applied to the skin. They are usually lighter, more volatile aromas that evaporate readily. Their scent usually lingers for between 5 and 30 minutes.

Middle notes, sometimes referred to as “heart notes”, make up the body of the blend. They may be evident from the start, but will usually take 10-30 minutes to fully develop on the skin. They are the notes that classify the fragrance family (floral, oriental, chypre, etc.)

Base Notes are those with the greatest molecular weight. They last the longest, and are also important as fixatives which help slow down the evaporation rates of the lighter notes, giving the fragrance holding power. Common base notes include patchouli, woods, musk, and vanilla.

Yes, perfume does expire. Most perfumes last for 3-5 years, but this period can range from as little as a year or up to ten. Generally, perfumes with rich, heavy base notes have a longer shelf life than light, airy fragrances.

Here are some tips for you.
- Keep your perfume away from sunlight
- Keep perfume away from heat and humidity
- Keep using it until the bottle is empty because when half empty, the oxygen inside increases the risk of alteration.
- Store in a cool place.
